  16. Hi. I am going to Baler for the first time this Holy Week. My family and I are very excited to see Baler. I am driving there with a utility vehicle. Are the roads passing through the Sierra Madre in good condition? Which is the best way to pass, via Talavera-Pantabangan or via Bongabon-San Luis? I would also like to drive to Casiguran. How are the roads to Casiguran and how long will it take to drive there from Baler?
Thanks for being available to help. Peter

    1. Hi. Thank you for your response. I will pass the Canili Road. I have read that it would take 6 hours to drive to Casiguran from Baler. Would you know how long it would take to drive to Casiguran? I have read that there are good white sand beaches there.
      Thank you.
      Peter

  20. Hi Bon Bon,
I was in Baler from 5-9April for the Holy Week. My family and I had a wonderful time and enjoyed the Sabang Beach very very much. My children went surfing and my wife and I had great fun frolicking in the water with the waves. Like the rest of the others on in the water, all you could hear would be the screems of delight as we would run from or jump over the waves as they would come relentlessly. The sand on the beach is fine and there were no stones, rocks, corals, nor plants from the shore to as far out as I could go.
We stayed at the Bahia de Baler and ate most of the time in Cafe Rosa. Chef Arnie, formerly from the Shangri-La Makati Hotel, was in charge of the food for that week. We also ate at Charlie's Chinese and Seafood Restaurant. Their buffet was elaborate with desert for only P150 per head. Further down the road was Carlito's at P130 per head buffet.
We really loved the suman of Aling Carmel which was made of organic brown rice locally grown called "galud". The peanut butter and coco jam of Nanay Pacing was excellent. We bought the coco jam and peanut butter at the pasalubong center near the market and beside the terminal for the buses. Nanay Pacing herself was selling her products. You can call her up and send her cash though moneygram and she will send the coco jam or peanut butter to you via Genesis bus and you can pick it up in Cubao. Nany Pacing 09475796270. It costs P170 per bottle of the coco jam or the peanut butter. It is about 1/2 liter big.
I felt very safe with the police always patrolling the beach and they even stop all water activity about 6-7pm when it is too dark and the lifeguards go home.
I passed the Rizal-Pantabangan Road and Canili road. Though there was a lot of traffic on NLEX and SCTEX, the rest of the trip was without any traffic and was smooth riding. There were a few short sections of the road that were under construction but easily passable by cars. The roads are are not very steep except for one section and the curves are not too sharp. This was a breeze to drive compared to driving the Halsema Highway from Baguio to Banaue. Manila to Baler is about 290 kms. From the start of the Rizal-Pantabangan road to Baler is about 125 kms.
Thank you very much for your hospitality and thoughtfulness to check on how I was doing while in Baler and for all your help. You are a big boost to the tourism of Baler. You indeed have a beautiful province and we are planning to go back again.
    God bless,
    Peter
